Aquavia Lumina
General Engineering Company (GEC) collaborated with the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI, on the Aquavia Lumina project, an enchanted night walk through a natural canyon. GEC provided civil and structural engineering, including surveying, for this unique project.
Preserving the natural beauty of the sandstone features was paramount. Our survey team marked the proposed path, conducted a detailed tree survey, and performed wetland delineations. The civil team secured necessary permits from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and did the civil site design for the pathway. Innovative solutions, like pinning bridge columns to rock formations in the wetland areas were used by our structural team.
This project also required creative logistics, limiting materials and equipment to 24 feet for transport into the canyon because of the challenging terrain. The project also had our team drawing on past designs from the 1990s and early 2000s, which successfully integrated new and old elements together, helping showcase GEC’s commitment to innovation resulting in a magical night walk experience.
