On Monday, November 13th members of the Portage Country Club Board gathered to break ground on the development of five premier residential lots located on the shores of Swan Lake just east of Portage. Construction of the new private drive to serve the lots is now underway. The course layout will change slightly but the addition of the new #2 hole will bring a healthy challenge and a beautiful view of the lake. The new lots will offer tranquil views as well as easy connection to the golf course.
Portage Country Club is situated along the scenic shores of Swan Lake offering 18 holes of challenging golf, a clubhouse with an exceptional restaurant and bar, fully stocked pro shop and driving range. Opened in 1930, the golf course has a traditional layout that is both challenging and playable. First developed as a 9-hole course eventually growing to a full 18 hole top rated course. The development of these sought after sites will help ensure the continuation of top quality golf for years to come.

In April 2017, the voters in the Pardeeville School District passed a $12 million referendum to provide improvements and an expansion to their High School. GEC’s Design Team, lead by Architect Richard Smith, will be providing the vision for this community-shaping project.
The expansion of the Pardeeville High School will be mostly dedicated to the Performing Arts Department, while additional improvements will include new offices, an expansion of the Art Room, and a new Wellness Center that will also be available to the public.
In addition to providing Architectural Services, GEC’s team will be kept very busy also providing Site Design, Structural, and Plumbing Design services. GEC has been working with the Pardeeville Bulldog Foundation closely for the past several years, providing guidance on a number of projects improving their athletic fields. GEC Vice President, Kent Fish, not only provided his engineering expertise to the improvement projects for the baseball fields, field lighting, fencing and archway welcoming fans to the complex, but donated countless hours of his own time to assist with the construction of these projects.

In July 2017, the Dairy Herd Improvement Association’s new building opened its doors. One part of the $45 million building project for Columbia County in Portage included this new office building for the DHIA. Located adjacent to the new Columbia County offices on East Mullett Street, the building provides vehicle bays, public accessible restrooms, and office space for the Association.
General Engineering Company provided Structural and Building Design for the building, as well as Site Design services.
PORTAGE, WI – Representatives from General Engineering Company met recently with City of Portage leaders and Portage School District representatives to present two donations for the Portage High School Building Trades Program.
Kent Fish PE and Vice President at General Engineering, presented over $10,000 of donated services to the building trades program by providing building and structural plan design, bidding coordination and technical support for the project. Mr. Fish also volunteers his time serving on the Building Committee.
Also, in an effort to give back to the program and community, Mark Jankowski, Director of Inspection Services was present to agree that GEC will not be assessing inspection fees for the next four Building Trades projects, to be built over the next several school years.
The Portage High School Building Trades Program is comprised of students that are interested in creating a career in the construction trades field. This program gives students the necessary hands on training that will carry straight into a profession within the construction field. Students earn two credits for time devoted to the project during three class periods a day, a study hall and a half hour after school.
The recently sold, 1,728 square foot home, has two and half bathrooms and three bedrooms, including a master bedroom with cathedral ceiling and walk in closets. Other features include a deck off the living room and an unfinished basement plumbed for future construction and a safe/storm room.

In efforts to create much needed space for the Portage Water Utility department, several business and city representatives gathered to break ground for a new facility yesterday. Located on the corner of Northridge Drive and Village Road, this new 10,000 square foot facility will provide maintenance space, equipment storage and office space for the department. Construction is to start week of July 18th and completion is expected to be mid to late December.
GEC is providing Building Design and Site Design services.

Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) Wisconsin Chapter recently held their 2015 ABC of Wisconsin Projects of Distinction Awards program at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Among the night’s award winners, was Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells, winning a Gold Award for Site Work.
The expansive Woodside Sports Complex development, consisting of 8 soccer fields and 4 baseball fields was designed by Brad Boettcher P.E. of General Engineering Company and constructed by general contractor, Friede and Associates.
