This morning, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources sent out the following message for Wisconsin Dam Owners:
“Wisconsin Dam Owners,
As you are aware, parts of Wisconsin experienced extreme precipitation and subsequent flooding. This has exposed many dams, large and small, to potential structural damage. When flood waters recede you should visually inspect your dam for any signs of damage. If you notice an issue you should contact your regional WME. Depending on the severity of the problem, you may advise to have the dam inspected by an professional engineer registered in Wisconsin.
For more information on contacting the Water Management Engineer assigned to your county:
If you believe the damage at your dam is of critical concern and likely to cause imminent failure, please activate the Emergency Action Plan for your dam.
If you do not have an Emergency Action Plan, contact the State Warning Center at 800-943-0003 and press 1 to reach the DNR Duty Officer.”
General Engineering structural engineers are available to inspect dams for potential damage caused by recent flooding. If you have questions or concerns, please call our office at (608) 742-2169.
